Perspective.

Instead of  posting a picture for Wordless Wednesday on, well, Wednesdays, I'm going to be doing something new. I'll still put up a picture, but go a step further. I found a website called  http://1000words.net/ It's based on the idea that a picture is worth a thousand words. People submit a photo and write about the memories and emotions invoked by that photo. This is a beautiful idea. Writing about what a picture means to you gives whoever is reading a glimpse of you, and it can be so good for us to look back on certain times in our life and remember what that moment meant to us, remember who we were. I love love love this project and am going to try to do this at least once a week. I don't want to put limits on it. I'll write as much or as little as I'm inspired to by whichever photo I choose. I want this to be a growing experience for me, emotionally and mentally, taking heed from my past mistakes and successes, failures and triumphs. I also want to grow as a writer, letting loose my self-imposed constraints.
Here's the first try.

This picture reminds me of that time in my life when I wasn't so cynical, so critical of myself and life in general. Looking at this, I can feel the cold seep through my ripped jeans as I crouch in the snow to get just the right angle.  It reminds me that there is always something beautiful, something fresh in life, but sometimes you have to change your perspective to see it.

  1. Perspective is everything, it's true.

  2. Well, It's been really hard to comment on this one, because it has a lot of meaning to me, and what I want to say is rather complicated. But, I don’t think I can stand to put it off anymore, so I'm just going to say it: Brilliant. Simply brilliant. It's funny how simple images can bring us back to people who we once were, people who no longer exist, except in the corners and crevices of our knotted-up brains. And sometimes, I suppose, pictures are the key, allowing us not only the opportunity to reflect on who we once were, but to open up the cages of the past and set them free within us, learn from them, let them become a fuller part of who we are now. It's something that's been on my mind for a long time, and I'm glad you were able to describe this concept so fantastically, even in so few words. Thank you.
